Western Australian Curriculum to Be Rolled Out in 100 Indian Schools

In a major development for international education in India, the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) is set to be introduced in 100 partner schools across the country. The initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aims to bring global education standards into Indian classrooms.

WACE, a senior secondary curriculum managed by the Government of Western Australia, has already been adopted in countries such as Singapore, China, Japan, and Malaysia. With official recognition from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the programme now holds Class 12 equivalence in India—enabling WACE students to apply to Indian universities just like CBSE or state board students.

Global Curriculum Meets Indian Vision

The launch supports NEP 2020’s emphasis on holistic learning, competency-based education, and reduced focus on rote memorisation. Instead of traditional final exams alone, students will be assessed through projects, moderated grading, and school-based evaluations. Each student will receive a unique ID from the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), and all certifications will be issued directly by the Government of Western Australia.

Global Recognition Through ATAR

Students enrolled in WACE will also receive the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), a globally accepted university entrance score recognised by institutions in Australia, the UK, US, Canada, and beyond. This opens up wide-ranging international opportunities while keeping pathways to Indian universities intact.

First Government-Backed Foreign Board in India

WACE will be the first international school board backed by a foreign government to operate formally within the Indian school system. It joins the ranks of other international curricula like the International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge International (CIE), and the French Baccalaureate (FB), but with the added advantage of official government oversight and broader university recognition.

A New Chapter in Indian Education

The rollout of WACE in India marks a pivotal moment in the country’s education landscape, offering students access to world-class learning while staying aligned with India’s educational reforms. The programme promises to nurture critical thinking, creativity, and global readiness among Indian students.
