Tamil Nadu VETRI Schools Initiative: Government-Sanctioned Career Guidance Program
The Government of Tamil Nadu has officially sanctioned ₹111.37 crore for the VETRI (Vibrant Education Targeting Reputed Institutions) Schools Initiative. This program aims to provide intensive coaching and career guidance to students in Classes XI and XII across 236 blocks in the state, focusing on preparation for competitive exams such as NEET, JEE, and CLAT.
Program Overview
The initiative will be implemented in two phases:
- Phase 1 (2025–26): Establishment of VETRI schools in 236 government higher secondary schools with ₹54.73 crore allocated.
- Phase 2 (2026–27): Expansion to 178 additional schools to complete 414 schools, with remaining ₹56.64 crore allocated.
Each VETRI school will serve as a hub within its block, offering weekend coaching for students. Approximately 240 students per block, totaling nearly 1 lakh students, will benefit from the initiative.
