Odisha has consented to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Center for the implementation of the PM SHRI school program, the Ministry of Education stated on Wednesday.
Only Delhi, Kerala, and West Bengal have not yet signed an MOU with the Union Ministry of Education for such schools with the participation of Odisha.
“The Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the Odisha government have taken a significant step by signing an MoU to implement the PM SHRI Scheme, which exemplifies NEP 2020 standards.”
The state is expected to sign the Memorandum of Understanding prior to the start of the 2024–25 academic year. The ministry further stated that this relationship represents improved Center-state ties.
The Ministry of Education stressed, “We wholeheartedly support this initiative as it underscores our collective commitment to enhancing school education and ensuring the comprehensive development of students in Odisha.”
Under the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) initiative, 14,500 schools serving 1.8 million students will be renovated and turned into role models that are in line with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Union government has chosen 6,448 schools from 28 states and Union territories to be upgraded in the first phase.
