How a Kerala woman with a disability cleared the UPSC exam with cursive writing

More than 1,000 candidates were successful in the UPSC Civil Services Result 2023, with Parvathy Gopakumar from Alappuzha, Kerala, coming in at position 282. Parvathy faced hardship despite having her right hand amputated in a bike accident during her school years, but her perseverance and fortitude helped her achieve her goal of working for the government.

Parvathy recounted her experience and explained how she used a book on cursive writing for kindergarteners to teach herself how to write with her left hand. She acknowledges that she is not able to write as quickly as she would want, but her persistence paid off as she received a commendable rank on her second try.

Parvathy’s parents have been her biggest supporters throughout her journey. Her mother is a high school teacher, and her father works as a deputy Tehsildar in the Revenue Department. Parvathy’s mother was always inspired by her daughter’s perseverance and always thought she had the capacity to accomplish more in life; Parvathy’s accomplishments have confirmed her mother’s opinion.

Following her legal studies, Parvathy enrolled in a private coaching center in Thiruvananthapuram with the goal of passing the Civil Services examination. Now that she has accomplished her objective, she is resolute to succeed in whatever comes next, exhibiting her unwavering dedication to achievement.

Aditya Srivastava of Lucknow secured the top spot in the UPSC results, which is a significant achievement for candidates like Parvathy who overcome challenges to realize their goals.
