CBSE to Launch Bharatiya Bhasha Camps Nationwide to Promote Indian Languages and Cultural Unity

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a new initiative that aims to foster multilingualism and cultural understanding among students through the introduction of Bharatiya Bhasha Camps across all CBSE-affiliated schools in India. This unique programme will be conducted during the upcoming summer holidays and is aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These camps will give students the opportunity to learn one of the 22 scheduled Indian languages in addition to their native or regional tongue, reinforcing the spirit of unity in diversity.

The learning experience will be interactive and practical in nature. Activities such as vocabulary-building exercises, role-plays in scenarios like shopping or asking for directions, storytelling sessions, and cultural discussions will be used to make language learning engaging and effective. Cultural immersion will be a core part of the programme, with students participating in traditional music, dance, and virtual tours exploring the food and history of the region associated with the chosen language. The final day of the camp will be celebrated with student performances, language contests, and certificate distribution.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will serve as the nodal agency for the programme, providing technical support and standardised learning materials. NCERT is set to release a structured short course and guidance documents for all 22 languages by May 20, which will be made available online. Additional audio-visual learning content will be supported by State Councils of Educational Research and Training (SCERTs), District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), and through the PM-eVidya channels.

To encourage sustained language practice beyond the camp, schools are being encouraged to set up Bharatiya Bhasha Clubs where students can continue exploring new languages throughout the academic year. Participating schools will be required to document the camp activities and submit online reports along with photographs.

This initiative is part of the broader Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat campaign and is a significant step toward preserving India’s rich linguistic heritage while nurturing cross-cultural connections among the younger generation.
